Later that morning, Rich and I tried to take ALL OF OUR CHILDREN out for a cross-country ski adventure, it was a cross-country ski NIGHTMARE!! We didn't even make it 15 yards before two or more children were in tears. I wish we could've video taped it all, it would have been a riot for me to watch! Anyway, after taking our kids back to the house in two separate shifts, Rich and I finally got to have OUR ski, just the two of us. PLEASE PAUSE FOR A MOMENT and PLACE YOUR HAND ON YOUR HEART...I have been asking Rich to cross-country ski with me for over ten years and every year he would give me the same response, "Cross-country skiing is lame, it is for people who don't know how to ski on real skis!" But for whatever reason, this year, he decided that he would go with me. Do you realize how monumental this occasion was for me? I don't know how much he enjoyed it, his skis were sticking to the snow and he was having to WORK his buns off, but I was in heaven! We go on a trail that is groomed and kind of away from town...so it is quiet, beautiful and man do you get your heart pumping! It is a great workout! I LOVE CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING!
THANK YOU RICHARD!
Later that afternoon, the rest of our gang arrived, the official party could begin!! AND OH MAN, THE PARTY BEGAN!! Rick and Karen made a lovely dinner, prime rib and "Sy's
potatoes" (which are HEAVENLY mashed potatoes with sweet potatoes and butter and cream cheese) and several other fabulous side dishes. BUT it was the "activity" that really got things crazy! They had us all gather around the table after dinner and proceeded to dump out bags and bags of various PVC pipe pieces, of all different sizes and shapes. They were laughing before we even got started! The kids all built their own marshmallow guns and decorated them with various colors of duct tape (SO SO SO COOL!) They had a ball and took this task very seriously! Then Grammy gave each person their own little bag of mini marshmallows and announced that we would have a marshmallow war in the house...you could've heard a pin drop! Every grandchild's jaw hit the floor and then asked, "are you serious?" For those of you that know Grammy, this is not a typical thing we would do, especially in the house. Oh don't get me wrong, Grammy is about as fun as Grammys get!! But messy things belong OUTSIDE!! But not tonight! We had a marshmallow gun fight in the house and I have never seen Grammy so happy! Take a look...
John, who I swear suffers from O.C. D, was having a fit, he didn't know what to think about the chaos or the mess!
Great-Grandma was such a sport and got a kick out of the marshmallow battle!
This is Wes' friend Mike, who is hoot, he and the kids had a ball together. They all ganged up on him and had him cornered at the end of the hall, it was hilarious!
John was having a hard time watching all the madness, so Grammy sat and cuddled with him, protecting him from the mess!
After a little snuggle with Grammy, John was able to handle the mayhem of the marshmallow madness...he was happy playing peek-a-boo!
UNTIL...he felt something a little sticky and a lottle ICKY!!
"EEEEEECCCCKKKKK!!!"
GROSS! Then we all experienced a massive marshmallow meltdown and the fun was OVER...
We all pitched in and cleaned it all up, AFTER John's foot was cleaned off of course! He had stepped in a wet marshmallow...GROSS! GROSS! GROSS! He almost had to retire to bed for the evening he was so disgusted!
Grammy and Grandpa, THANKS FOR AN AWESOME EVENING THAT NONE OF US WILL EVER FORGET!!!
XOXOXO WE LOVE YOU!! XOXOXO
